For Jun and Suni Lee, losing Medicaid wasn’t the result of a major life change. Their income had simply risen above the eligibility threshold.
Jun works as an educator. Suni helps care for their grandchildren. They were earning too much to qualify for Medicaid - but not enough to make private health insurance affordable.
Suddenly, they were caught in the gap between the two.
For a time, Jun and Suni went without care. Then a neighbor told them about BVMI.
This month, they became patients at our new Garfield clinic, where they found more than a place to receive high-quality primary care. They also met with our case manager, who connected them with additional resources to support their family - including recently donated school supplies for their grandchildren.
Jun and Suni’s experience is one we expect to hear more often in the months ahead. As Medicaid coverage changes, more people who work, care for their families, and contribute to our community may find themselves without affordable health insurance.
