At BVMI, compassionate care extends beyond the exam room - thanks to dedicated volunteers and generous supporters like you.
For children who visit BVMI with their parents, comfort sometimes comes in the form of a soft, hand-knit teddy bear made with love by volunteer Pearl Leichman.
Pearl’s journey to BVMI began decades ago, when she first learned to knit teddy bears while living in Florida. Years later, as a member of the National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section (NCJW BCS), she saw a call for volunteers to create handmade items for BVMI - and knew it was the perfect fit. She now knits each bear on her own schedule, choosing colors and styles that make every one unique. At 98 years young, Pearl continues to give back in a way that brings her joy. “Bringing a smile to a child's face will always make me happy,” she shares. And her advice to others is simple: “You always get back more than you give when you donate your time or talents to a worthy cause.” |
