Supporting Women’s Health
What do TD Bank and Susan G. Komen North Jersey have in common? They both support BVMI's Women's Health Initiative!
Nearly 60% of BVMI's patients are women. Part of BVMI's Women's Health Initiative means ensuring all women receive age-appropriate care from pap tests to mammograms. Generous support from TD Bank and Susan G. Komen North Jersey helps ensure our practitioners are able to do just that!
TD Bank has been a sustaining force since BVMI has opened its doors in 2008. As one of the 10 largest banks in the United States, BVMI is fortunate to have corporate support from such a well-known entity. "We are proud to support Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative since its inception, and are thrilled to be a part of this growing organization," says Joanne Westphal, Retail Market Manager for TD Bank, North New Jersey.
In addition to funding BVMI's Women's Health Initiative, TD Bank supports BVMI's Anniversary Gala and BVMI's Second Thursday Open House.
This is the first year BVMI has received funding from Susan G. Komen North Jersey and our team is thrilled about this new partnership!
Komen North Jersey's grant specifically focuses on helping BVMI to provide free healthcare to uninsured Hispanic women in northern New Jersey who might be at risk for breast cancer and who have no other options to receive care. Our multilingual, native Spanish-speaking nurse navigator, Vicky Fliman, RN, helps to provide breast health information and ensures our patients receive all necessary screening and follow-up appointments. Furthermore Vicky monitors their progress and encourages compliance.
“At the heart of our mission is the need to provide awareness of and access to critical services for those who are most at-risk,” says Kelly Nagle Witkowski, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen North Jersey. “We accomplish this by supporting programs at those local community non-profit organizations that are most aligned with our goals. Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative is definitely one of these like-minded partners! We are proud to be underwriting the critical services that they are providing in their community through their Women’s Health Initiative. We are grateful for BVMI’s partnership in helping us to break down, and break through barriers that will ultimately help us to save more lives in our communities.”
Many thanks to our partners - both old and new!
