A patient recovering from paralysis recently came to BVMI with a simple but urgent need: a collapsible four-point cane. Without it, he risked falling. With it, he could move safely, regain independence, and continue healing.
The cost was modest. The impact was life-changing.
That is the purpose of the Gene Marsh Patient Emergency Fund.
Every day at BVMI, patients face unexpected obstacles that can stand between them and critical medical care. Sometimes it’s transportation to a specialist appointment. Sometimes it’s emergency rent or utilities. Sometimes it’s help covering the cost of a procedure or essential medical equipment.
These are expenses that most of our patients simply cannot afford.
Established in 2021 by friends and family of longtime BVMI volunteer and supporter Gene Marsh, the Fund honors Gene’s deep compassion and belief that every person deserves dignity, care, and support during difficult moments.
