Casualmente, la enfermera Shelley Larsen es clienta de una peluquer\u00eda donde trabaja Juana, una paciente del BVMI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJuana mencion\u00f3 que durante un tiempo no pod\u00eda costearse la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica, y entonces encontr\u00f3 BVMI\u201d, dijo Shelley. \u201cComent\u00f3 que hab\u00eda tenido malas experiencias con la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica en el pasado, pero que en BVMI fue completamente diferente\u201d.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMi hija me recomend\u00f3 BVMI hace unos tres a\u00f1os\u201d, explic\u00f3 Juana. \u201cNecesitaba urgentemente un chequeo y una mamograf\u00eda. Adem\u00e1s, ten\u00eda prediabetes. Ahora estoy m\u00e1s sana. Estas personas tan atentas me han ayudado tanto mental como emocionalmente\u201d. Juana participa en el Programa de Prevenci\u00f3n de la Diabetes, un programa anual que educa a los pacientes sobre un estilo de vida saludable, incluyendo alimentaci\u00f3n sana, ejercicio y reducci\u00f3n del estr\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlgo m\u00e1s que Juana comparti\u00f3 se me qued\u00f3 grabado\u201d, dijo Shelley. \u201cEstaba agradecida de que su m\u00e9dica de cabecera en BVMI, la enfermera especializada Victoria Eftychiou, se centrara en algo m\u00e1s que Juana la paciente; tambi\u00e9n la escuchaba como persona. Eso me hizo querer saber m\u00e1s sobre BVMI\u201d.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSiempre me ha interesado la salud\u201d, a\u00f1adi\u00f3 Shelley. \u201cDe hecho, dirig\u00ed un club de salud durante varios a\u00f1os. Pero cuando mi padre falleci\u00f3 demasiado pronto, empec\u00e9 a pensar en otras maneras de marcar la diferencia. Fue entonces cuando decid\u00ed estudiar enfermer\u00eda\u201d.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Actualmente, Shelley trabaja como enfermera titulada en el Centro M\u00e9dico Universitario de Hackensack, tiene una maestr\u00eda en enfermer\u00eda y est\u00e1 estudiando para especializarse como enfermera practicante. \u00a1Nos alegra mucho que, a pesar de su apretada agenda, Shelley se una al equipo de BVMI como voluntaria cl\u00ednica!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEs importante conectar los puntos de la vida\u201d, dijo Shelley. \u201cCreo que el hecho de que Juana me hablara de BVMI y que yo le diera seguimiento estaba predestinado. He visto a demasiados pacientes que acuden con frecuencia a las salas de urgencias de los hospitales: personas con insuficiencia card\u00edaca, EPOC, todo tipo de problemas. Habr\u00eda menos si hubieran recibido atenci\u00f3n preventiva y educaci\u00f3n antes. Esa es una de las razones por las que el modelo de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica de BVMI es tan inspirador\u2018.\u2019<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Una ventaja adicional para BVMI es que nuestra nueva voluntaria potencial habla espa\u00f1ol con fluidez. \u201cJuana me coment\u00f3 que este es el idioma principal que hablan muchos pacientes de BVMI\u201d, dijo Shelley. \u201cHe notado la diferencia cuando una enfermera conoce el idioma de los pacientes. Se puede conectar la emoci\u00f3n en sus rostros con sus palabras.
