Building Momentum
BVMI will not accept third party reimbursement, therefore our ability to keep the doors open is totally dependent on contributed dollars. Please consider donating to the BVMI Healthcare Center.
- Signed Memorandum of Understanding with Bergen County Community Action Partnership, Inc. for access to 3,400 sq. ft. at 241 Moore St., Hackensack, NJ.
- Received zoning approval from the City of Hackensack to establish a primary care physician’s office named as the BVMI Healthcare Center. For the facility layout
- Received approval to become a licensed Healthcare Facility and approval of the facility plans from the state of New Jersey
- The construction at the site is largely funded by a Community Development Block Grant, County of Bergen and by a CDBG-Recovery federal stimulus grant
- Over 450 individuals and 70 organizations have donated funds to open the Healthcare Center. We have three Founding Circle Members—Michael R. Armellino, Lynn Diamond and The Bolger Foundation
- The Horizon Foundation for NJ: BVMI received a renewed grant from the Horizon Foundation for NJ for years 2009 and 2010 for community outreach and an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. A prior grant funded planning of referral systems from hospital Emergency Rooms to BVMI for primary care
- The Bolger Foundation: BVMI exceeded a matching challenge grant of $100,000 offered by The Bolger Foundation for the first quarter 2009.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Bergen County Community Action Partnership, Inc., in collaboration with BVMI, was awarded a grant over three years to address the issue of health literacy among immigrant populations in our community.
Opening the Doors
- The construction at 241 Moore St., Hackensack started in July with a firm date of completion set for October 9, 2009
- A major portion of the medical equipment, office equipment and furniture has been donated by individuals and companies! We are still seeking in-kind donations. Please contact us if you have something that you believe may be of use to BVMI
- Training programs for staff and volunteers, equipment set-up, and organization of supplies are on-going
Engaging the Community
- More than 90 retired and active healthcare professionals have given a commitment to volunteer their services either in the Healthcare Center or at their private offices for specialty care
- BVMI has engaged with area hospitals in an effort to build a network of services for patients who require services beyond BVMI’s primary care
Relationships with local elected officials, state legislators, and the NJ - Department of Health and Senior Services have been established.
Civic organizations have been approached to engage with BVMI through donations and services - Meetings with leadership and staff of agencies throughout Bergen County are on-going in order to introduce BVMI to the social service and health networks and to establish referral patterns on behalf of clients whom we may mutually serve
- Outreach to the religious community is an important element in BVMI’s efforts to inform prospective patients of our services
